K-Designers Specialize in Energy Economical Exterior Remodels
K-Designers, one of the west coast’s biggest exterior remodeling businesses, started with a 1978 hail storm that struck the city of Casper, Wyoming. Hail damage to buildings there was so widespread local contractors could not meet demand for all the insurance claims. Siblings Lee and Larry Judson came to town, hammers in hand, to help out short term. They ended up staying on, mastering exterior remodeling and forming K-Designers.
No one was more surprised to see K-Designers mature into a national brand than Lee and Larry. The business now has over 900 staff and 11 offices serving 18 states. Their success has been a function of finding something that works, staying focused on their area of expertise and making continual improvements. For many years K-Designers focused on exterior siding. That was the experience of Sharon DeLima, a Pilot Hill, California homeowner who had K-Designers install vinyl siding over the top of defective stucco on her new custom home.
“K-Designers put an end to a very long, three-year nightmare”, she says. “I have been in a litigation fight regarding the cracks in the stucco on my house; twenty-five thousand dollars in attorney fees, thirty-three hundred in stucco test, eleven hundred in engineering and consultant fees, and still counting. Several mediations, postponement after postponement of court dates, week after week of contractors at the house working on estimates of re-doing the stucco, numerous hours of research on acrylic stucco and elastomeric paint, just to find out from the experts, the acrylic stucco or elastomeric paint will not correct the problem”, she says.
“For some time, I had been considering the covering of the old siding with new siding as a means of increasing the energy efficiency for both the heating and cooling of the house, and also as a means of decreasing the cost of maintaining the wood siding”, says Ted Rebstock, a satisfied K-Designers client from LeMars, Iowa. “I had not really considered the changed appearance of the house. I was pleasantly surprised at how much more attractive the house was after the installation of the vinyl siding. A number of our friends and neighbors have also commented about the improved appearance.”
K-Designers is bucking the downtrend in the construction field with development plans that include widening to new markets via acquisitions, broadening its product line for different geographical regions and marketing to its existing base of over 100,000 customers. K-Designers is one of the few construction companies that is actively seeking new personnel and offers good prospects for career maturation over the next few years.
