Snowboarding Holidays for the Carbon Minded Traveler
Thousands of keen skiers will before long be trying to find their ski pants and scooting forth in search of the largest snowfall. And beyond question the results from our carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday essentials as a xmas cracker after the Christmas holidays. Just last Christmas, a late snowfall hit the headlines and tourists were panic struck about the flakes of snow melting almost as soon as they landed.
Ski holiday organisation Chalet 1802, placed at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix in the Alps, is one of the first autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and offer snowboarders an environmentally friendly option when booking their ski vacations. Chalet 1802 owner Makenna said: Last winter was quite a surprise with the most warm wintertime in 60 yrs in France. Snowboarding skiing areas like Courchevel, Les Menuires and Les Deux Alpes suffered. It was temperate and the snowfall did not settle so much of the early snowboarding season in the Alps was patchy. We chose to become carbon negative to assist in the preservation the skiing resort.
Makenna said: We’re not seeking to prescribe to guests only I believe it is crucial to provide the guests the option without augmenting the cost of the ski holiday. If the guest book with us and goes to our skiing chalet they can more than off set their carbon footprint and we absorb the additional costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – holiday makers wish for luxuriousness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we viewed methods of reducing the impact of a client driving over here for a skiing holiday.”
The firm have moreover joined with group Climate Care, which attacks global warming by making C02 reductions on behalf of people and firms.
