Todd Smith
Todd Smith the front man for Dog Fashion Disco the Alter Boys, and most recently Polka dot Cadaver and El Creepo is what most would call a genius, I don’t use that word lightly but I do think that indeed Mr. Smith is up there in the ole IQ top couple percentage. His haunting lyrics and amazing ability to tell stories in 3rd person are unlike many before him. Most compare his vocals to Mike Patton from the legendary Mr. Bungle and write him off as a strange artist, at closer look most would realize that while Todd might have some of the same vocal quirks that Mike has the lyrics the structure is unlike anything that has been heard until now. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Smith recently at a show in New York City he was exceptionally nice and excited to compare his newest project El Creepo to dark Depeche Mode 80s style freakiness. Every person I have introduced Polka dot Cadaver to have latched on, no matter what genera they might be attached to. The great thing about that is no matter how dark and twisted or satanic his lyrics might be he can hook you with a good loop and suck you in before you realize his is talking about keeping a girl against her will in his basement. Its all storytelling, Todd Smith just writes the best horror movie style lyrics I have ever heard but then again they are much more than that.
