Self-styled writer’s workshop in Italy

Having finally managed to save enough money, I’m off to Taormina in Sicily, Italy later today for a two month stint. Those of you who know me are aware that this is really going to be a make or break time for my book. I’ve progressed to the stage now where enough is written for it to maintain my interest, I just need that final push to get it done and dusted.

I’ve had quite a lot of interest from publishers, following on from Dave (bless him!) sending round a few of the first chapters, but I’m reluctant to actually pursue anything until I’m happy with the book. I’m really excited about this trip, if a little nervous.

Tonight, if all goes according to plan, I’ll be staying in the Grand Hotel Timeo. Tomorrow, I’ll go hunting for somewhere else to stay, long-term. I’ve been advised that it should be real easy to find a local family to stay with, which would really be ideal. I have a sort of idea in my mind of the kind of routine I’d like to settle into. Get up really early, and get some writing done while my brain is still a bit dozy (that works well for me for some reason). Then jog down to the beach and have a swim and a quick sunbathe. Then head to a local coffee shop, get some fresh fruit for breakfast and a paper to stay updated. Then I’ll go back home and review what I wrote first thing and write some more. That should take me to lunch, when I’ll make a nice salad with bread and lots of olive oil before a siesta. The afternoon/early evening will be spent reading, researching or writing. Hopefully, I’ll make some friends before too long and I’ll meet up with them in the evening. Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan!
